RACS seeks funding for new van for services

LEXINGTON — Rockbridge Area Community Services provides transportation for developmentally and mentally disabled adults in the counties of Rockbridge and Bath and cities of Lexington and Buena Vista for the purpose of transporting individuals to and from training, supported employment, medical appointments, and other community integration and socialization projects.

Funds are being requested from the Commonwealth of Virginia to purchase a 12-passenger van through the FTA Section 5310 Program. The vehicle will be used to transport participants from their homes in Rockbridge County or the Lexington and Buena Vista, to Rockbridge Area Community Services, designated employment or socialization sites, or other appointments which often occur after hours when other alternative transportation is unavailable.

Commonwealth policy states that where possible, recipients should coordinate with other local providers who provide transportation services to enhance resource-sharing opportunities.

RACS invite you, as a local provider or stakeholder within the County of Rockbridge and Cities of Lexington and Buena Vista, to comment on its proposed services by notifying RACS at: Rockbridge Area Community Services, 214 Greenhouse Rd, Lexington Va. 24450; 540-463-3141; gbrown@racsb.org.

For questions about the proposal, feel free to call Genevieve Brown, RACS’ Director of Community Support Services.
